Met trots kunnen we zeggen dat we een aantal belangrijke acquisities hebben gedaan. Het gaat om een groot aantal (270) foto’s die lagen opgeslagen bij het Curacaos Museum. Het grootste deel, maar niet allemaal, betreffen foto’s van de beroemde Curacaose fotgraaf Soublette, die in de 19e eeuw zijn studio had in Otrobanda. Deze collectie hebben we van het Curacaos Museum in bruikleen gekregen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vele van deze foto’s zijn zogenaamde portretfoto’s, waarvan niet altijd te achterhalen valt wie de geportreteerde is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daarnaast zijn een aantal belangrijke boeken in bruikleen verkregen. Allereerst het boek<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Historie ofte iaerl\u0133ck verhael van de verrichtinghen der geoctroyeerde West-Indische Compagnie, zedert haer begin, tot het eynde van ‘t jaer sesthien-hondert ses-en-dertich; begrepen in derthien boecken, ende met verscheyden koperen platen verciert: \/ beschreven door Ioannes de Laet<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het is een origineel boek uit 1644 en daardoor uiterst waardevol. Voor het publiek zal allereerst een reproductie ter beschikking worden gesteld. Het boek kan worden samengevat als een “Jaarverslag van de West Indische Compagnie”. De verovering van Curacao in 1634 wordt er in beschreveen, met kaarten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het boek “Cartas de Indias” waarin correspondentie tussen de Spaanse conquistadores (Columbus, de Ojeda, Vespucci, de la Cosa, de Ampi\u00e9s) met de Spaanse kroon in gedrukte versie wordt weergegeven. Voor onderzoekers van de Spaanse koloniale periode een belangrijke bron. De originelen van deze correspondentie bevinden zich in Sevilla, in de “Archivo General de Indias<\/a>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In de foto gallery enkele van de geaquireerde foto’s. Foto 1 stamt uit 1908. In dat jaar stuurde Nederland 5 marine schepen, waaronder het splikspinternieuwe pantser dekschip Hr. Ms. Jacob van Heemskerck naar Curacao om de Venezolaanse handelsblokkade te doorbreken en onder Nederlandse vlag varende Curacaose schepen te beschermen tegen inbeslagname door Venezuelaanse kustwachters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
